Federal Government Suspends FRN Code That Forced Pastor Adeboye To Step Down As RCCG Nigeria Overseer

The federal government has suspended the law that forced Enoch Adeboye to step down as the Nigeria overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
The Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRN), under Jim Obazee, had directed not-for-profit organisations — including churches and mosques — to comply with a corporate governance code stipulating a term of 20 years for heads of such entities.
It was by this provision that Adeboye, who had spent over 20 years as GO of RCCG, named Joshua Obayemi to head the Nigeria church although he stressed the he remained the worldwide overseer of the church.
On Monday, President Muhammadu Buhari fired Obazee and approved the reconstitution of the board.
And in a statement on Monday, Constance Ikokwu, media aide of Okechukwu Enelamah, minister of industry, trade and investment, said the law had also been suspended in order to review it.
“The Corporate Governance Code issued by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigerian has been suspended pending a detailed review, extensive consultation with stakeholders and reconstitution of the board of the FRN,” he said.

Adeboye: God Used Buhari To Punish FRC Boss – CAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has welcomed the removal of Financial Reporting Council (FRC) Executive Secretary, Mr. Jim Obazee.
FRC is the body whose law led to the retirement of Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye as General Overseer of Nigerian arm of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
Reacting, CAN General Secretary, Rev. Musa Asake said the sack of Obazee by President Muhammadu Buhari was divine.
He said God used authorities to punish the official for daring to interfere in the work of the church.
“The sack of Jim (Obazee) is good riddance to bad rubbish. Anybody that wants to fight the church will find himself where he does not want,” he told The Nation.
“Jim got to the position by the grace of God, but set out to probe and destroy the church of God. I spoke with him several times on this issue but he wouldn’t listen.
“He was going to take the church to what is worse than Armageddon. Thank God the authorities have stepped in to right the wrong.
“He should have been fired a long time ago and we don’t know why he was left alone, but God’s time is always the best.
“That code should be thrown out completely because government should not interfere with the church.
“The church is a no-go zone for the government. Doing that has serious implications. If they attempt it, it will lead to confusion in the nation”, he added.
Similarly, Senior Pastor, Living Spring Chapel International, Lagos, Pastor Femi Emmanuel, has condemned the controversial law.
He said the sack “is a right step in the right direction. Government has no business meddling in the internal structure and governance of the church.
“There is no government in the world that does that. Anyone who does that is incurring the wrath of God. Yes, there could be financial regulation of churches but never in the internal structure of the church.
“Everything that has to do with the internal structure and governance of the church must be expunged from the code.”
Obazee, a former pastor of the RCCG, had said only 89 of the 23,216 registered churches in the country had complied with FRC provisions.
Meanwhile, the leadership of CAN is set to hold an emergency meeting on the FRC code and other related matters.
CAN President Rev. Samson Ayokunle said the organisation’s lawyers would review the issues and make their position known to the public.

Nollywood Actress Omoni Oboli Spits Fire On Critic

Nollywood Actress Omoni Oboli Spits Fire On Man Trying To Put Her Down
Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Omoni Oboli has come after a critic who stated that her last movie, Wives On Strike, is not well-scripted to tackle the menace of child abuse in the country.
According to the critic, the movie is a huge let-down.
Following the review , Oboli took to her official Instagram page to tackle the issue stating:
“Nigerians and the crab mentality again! I usually won’t do this but I guess this caught me on the wrong side today. Sometimes we let rubbish go on for too long and it doesn’t even help any of us.
“I work hard, I really do. If I will say so myself, I am an amazing writer and a great producer and director; there, I said it, deal with it.
So apparently, my critic is smarter than hundreds of thousands of you who have watched my movies and enjoyed it.
“Being Mrs Elliott was opening film in different film festivals and is still getting great reviews; The First Lady was Audience Choice award at the last Nollywood Week Festival in Paris. Wives on Strike, don’t even get me started on that one; awards and recognition galore.”
The greatest reward is the love and appreciation of you my Omoni fam. That’s all I need and I will keep doing the movies you love. To all naysayers, put your money where your mouth is: produce your own film so you can show us how to do better.”
